The “Best Value Around” and Casa Santa Ana
Up and at em early. We made the 20 minute trek over to Foxfire Golf and Resort for our 7:30 tee time. We were the first people at the facility and loitered around until 7:35 before somebody opened the pro shop. At $23 for 18 holes this was the “best value around” according to a local we met outside. It sure was a value.
This kitty cat came burrowing out of the woods to say hi. At first we both thought it was going to attack. But then it just hung around and welcomed us to the course. The first employee we saw!
Must be part bobcat!
The round got away from me quickly. The excuse train could get rolling and keep on moving for a while. But I just got bad vibes from the place.
There was bamboo scattered around the course which was pretty confusing. That’s bamboo right?
We needed a place to lick our wounds after a lackluster first 18 of the day. We had to go to Harris Teeter’s. Only this time we opted for the full experience. Check out that setup! We spent over an hour watching people shop for produce, just the thing to regain our strength.
There was also this one employee who I saw doing three separate jobs while we were there. One second she was squirting mayonnaise on a sub sandwich at the deli, then she was helping the floral department solve a problem, and she was also seen whipping up iced caramel macchiatos at Starbucks! I’ve never seen hustle like this. You can’t teach that!
We teed off at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club at 1:55. This is a pic from the first tee. Designed by Donald Ross, this place opened in 1921. A real special spot that had our hearts thumping a little extra on the first tee. Glen and I both found the fairway!
Found this in the clubhouse. Those walls were talking!
Glen and I both hit some memorable shots. The greens were diabolical, but I wish I took a picture of each one. We both sunk a few long putts that surprised everyone! Mid Pines is a beautiful property that tested us, and we couldn’t wait for more golf tomorrow.
We quickly decided on a dinner spot. Casa Santa Ana sounded like just what the doctor ordered. We were not disappointed. The service was incredible. Our waiter was there whenever we needed him. He had chips and salsa on the table basically as we sat down. As soon as we closed our menus he was there to take our order. He kept calling me “boss” too, which was nice of him. Back to the treehouse to watch Duke cover 18. (Editors note: Duke won by 17)
